Six months prior to each new year, my father, Grandmaster Chi-Jen Liu and I begin to study the Flying Nine Star Charts for the next year, along with the Chinese Almanac
(Tong Shu), Book of Changes (Yi-Jing) and the Zi Wei astronomy charts. Besides these cyclical studies, we also observe the chi, or aura, of different nation’s leaders and their people, as well as go into deep meditative states to receive higher universal intelligence to make social, political, economic, disaster, climate, and health forecasts across the globe. Now that 2009 has come to an end, it is fascinating to reflect upon the year’s past events to see the accuracy of the predictions we made in the prior year of 2008.
We have done quite a bit of research gathering the key headlines of 2009, and have supplied links for your reference. Please remember that the directions of the Nine Star Chart can be applied on macrocosmic and microcosmic levels. In other words, when we talk about any one of the nine directions, such as the north sector, this can relate to the continents of the Northern Hemisphere, its northern countries, or its northern cities.
In some cases regions can overlap. For instance, Los Angeles can belong both to the southwest (on the scale of the whole country) and the south (on the scale of the state). When similar stars occur in two overlapping directions, this further pinpoints where the event may occur. Due to the fact that each of the Nine Stars are associated to a wide number of things - from different directional regions, economic sectors, climatology, social roles, physical human attributes, to different seasons - there are many interpretations that can be forecasted. We are not able to give all possible combinations of forecast interpretations. We did our best to give the main ones.
Below is a condensed version of the forecasts we made in June of 2008 for 2009 concerning the central and northern regions, plus a sampling of the events that took place in 2009. You can find the complete original forecasts in our book, Guide to a Harmonious 2009, which has sold out, but is available in many libraries.
CENTER
The Center Stars in the Nine Star Chart provide an overview of the year’s energy. Fire Star 9 was the base star in the center of the 2009 Nine Star Chart. The basic character of the Star 9 is its association to the ambitious middle-aged female, thus we forecasted that females would make powerful strides on both the economic and political fronts. In 2009, a record of
five women received the Nobel
Prize. We also experienced the highest number of female world leaders to date at
15.
One of the key economic sectors related to Star 9 is entertainment. We forecasted that this sector would prosper in 2009. Nick Allen of the Telegraph in the UK reports that
Hollywood set a box office record of $10 billion in
2009. This overlapped with the forecast in the southwest sector, pointing directly at Hollywood. This was quite an incredible feat considering the economic crisis.
Fire
Star 9 is also related to the element of fire, indicating fire disasters,
higher temperatures, and electricity problems. We specifically
forecasted pyrotechnic disasters and blackouts. A major blackout
in Brazil on November 11, 2009 left 18 of the 26 states without power.
The 2009 Nine Star Charts also showed fire in the northeast and east
directions where the following disasters occurred. On July 5, 2009,
a fireworks explosion claimed the lives of 4 people in North Carolina,
which is on the east coast of the United States. On February 9,
2009, during the Lunar New Year celebration in Beijing (located in
northeast China) “A fierce blaze started by an illegal fireworks show
engulfed one of the Chinese capital’s most architecturally celebrated
modern buildings…” reports Andrew Jacob of the New York Times.

Star 9 is also associated to the south, indicating that the south region is where a majority of fires are likely to occur. On the same day as the Beijing fire disaster, Australia had one of the worst brushfires in its history, accompanied by record high temperatures in parts of Melbourne that reached 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit) with dozens of heat related
deaths.
In Pasadena, Southern California, “the largest fire of the year was the Station
fire, which burned 160,557 acres in the Angeles National Forest… sparked by an arsonist who has never been caught, the fire started on August 26 and burned 89 homes.” It was not contained until October 16.
Paul Krugman of the New York Times reports that undeniable statistics gathered from climate scientists all over the world agree that
global temperatures are
rising. Ice is melting faster than expected and the permafrost and thawing tundra are releasing more carbon dioxide than previously thought, creating a much bigger warming effect.
With the sitting and facing Stars 5 and 4 in the center, we predicted strong winds that could spread wildfire. This was, in fact, the cause of the Australian brushfires. Star 4 is also associated to the southeast, which was the region where the Australian fires occurred.
Although we did not predict these events specifically, they do indeed reflect the possible interpretations of the Stars 9, 5, and 4 in the center sector.
Furthermore, Star 5 is related to crime and violations, and Star 4 is associated to the liver. Because of this, we forecasted drug scandals and investments that go sour. Star 9 is also associated to the entertainer. One of the world’s greatest entertainers, Michael Jackson, passed away this year, from what appears to be drug overdose, leaving behind some sour investments. David Carradine, another legendary entertainer, passed away in a violating fashion while filming on location in Thailand, which is in southeast Asia, a region associated to Star 4.
NORTH
The violating Star 5 came to the north in 2009. This indicated dire problems in the northern regions. We had already predicted major problems for the transportation industry with Star 6 in the north in 2008. With the Star 5 in 2009, it was not surprising to see the
bankruptcy of the auto giants GM and Chrysler due to soaring gas prices and economic decline. The need of a major federal bailout was a great financial disaster for the United States, reflective of Star 5’s energies.
We did predict contaminated water sources, and specifically, oil spills in the northern regions. On December 30, 2009,
100 gallons of crude oil were estimated to have spilled in the water around Anchorage, Alaska.
On the positive side, the strong female energy of fame, associated with the double sitting and facing Star 9s, allowed us to interpret the forecast of famous women rising to power in the north. In London, England, writer Carol Ann Duffy was appointed British Poet Laureate. She is the first woman to take this 341-year-old job that has always been held by men.
In Period 8, Star 4 is associated with the wind and flying animals. Combined with Star 5, this can bring bird flu or airborne viruses to northern regions. The
Avian Flu made headlines in Egypt
(the northern region of Africa) while the infamous Swine Flu caused by the N1H1 virus spread through countries of the northern hemisphere. Similar Stars in the northwest region created an overlap and pinpointed the susceptible regions of the United States, Canada, and Britain, which is confirmed by the December 29th article in the New York Times.
